David Carl Gerrald

David Carl Gerrald (“Carl”), 74, of Rock Hill, passed away peacefully Tuesday, December 19, 2023. Born February 14, 1949, in Galivants Ferry, South Carolina, Carl was the son of the late Mack Leland Gerrald and Minnie Ellen Lewis Gerrald. With the early passing of Mack, Carl and his brother Joe Gerrald spent the remainder of their childhoods at Epworth Children’s Home in Columbia, South Carolina. Carl proudly remained friends throughout these many years with his Epworth family.

Carl was a graduate of Dreher High School and Palmer College. He served his country in the United States Air Force. Upon being honorably discharged, he spent his career as an entrepreneur, fixing anything and everything, as well as working with Duke Energy. Carl lived to help others - always willing to give the shirt off his back to anyone in need. His greatest passion was to support the many charitable events that have helped to sustain Epworth Children’s Home.

He enjoyed the outdoors, traveling, occasionally visiting casinos, woodworking, going to Northwestern High School football games and spending time with his family and friends.

Carl is survived by his loving son Chad David Gerrald and granddaughter Sydnee; his loving daughter Jennifer Gerrald Hopwood and husband James.  Carl is also survived by his brother Joe Gerrald and wife Shirley; niece Donna Kiker daughter of Carl’s late sister Edna Gerrald; and many more family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 12pm Friday, January 5, 2024, in the chapel of Bass-Cauthen Funeral Home, 700 Heckle Blvd, Rock Hill, SC with interment to follow at Grandview Memorial Gardens, 620 S. Cherry Road, Rock Hill, SC.
