Janet Barbara Walsh

August 11, 1939 — January 16, 2021

After suffering with Dementia Janet Walsh passed on January16, 2021. Janet wasborn of Scottish parents in Philadelphia, PA. Janet graduated from high school, and
began working as a secretary, Janet wanted to be an artist so a year later she sold everything packed her VW, and moved to New York City. She found a secretarial job with Avon International. Within days, she started attending "The Arts Students League" studying Watercolors, she did this for 9 years, nights and weekends. She became an associate member of AWS. Next came signature membership, then vice president, followed by 9 years as President. She was able to reorganize and modernize AWS into a well run world wide art organization.

Janet's very first watercolor workshop was at the Springmaid Beach Facility, Myrtle Beach, SC. Her flower paintings present a refreshing palette of fresh cut flowers, arrangements with baskets, crystal, fabrics and greens. From this beginning she developed a worldwide career of teaching watercolor. She travelled and taught in England, Scotland, Ireland, France, Spain and Italy. Hawaii, China and Japan, and continued to teach across the United States and Canada.

Janet met Jim and soon they were a couple.  She continued to hold workshops in her home studios on Long Island, NY, Coopersburg, PA, and their summer studio in Old Forge, NY. Moving to Fort Mill, Jim’s old home, they together began to teach on small ships, cruising and teaching in the Mediterranean Sea, the Great Lakes and both the American and British Virgin Islands.

Janet's original watercolor painting have been exhibited in both national and international exhibitions, earning awards in most. She is listed in Who’s Who in America Art. She published a book, "Watercolor made Easy" and a series of 4 videos on painting and another video on working from Photos.

Internationally, Janet is a Fellow of the Royal Society for the Encouragement of the Arts, London, England. Janet was invited to participate in the First Exhibition of Contemporary International Watermedia Masters in Nanjing, China as well as the Second in Beijing, China.

In addition to Jim, and his family, Janet is survived by her Brother Les his wife Jenny, a Step Daughter, Kathleen Gloisten and nephews James and Daniel Dawson and family.

Jim appreciates the members of the Westminster Skilled Nursing Staff whocared for Janet.

He would like to thank Beth Cottle, and Golden Johnson, who have gone the extra mile for Janet.

Because of the Coronavirus situation there are no plans for a gathering to celebrate Janet's life and to honor her memory.
