Agnes Mary McDermott, age 81 of Indian Trail, NC died peacefully in her sleep on February 26, 2023, after bravely fighting her battle with several illnesses. Agnes was born January 29, 1942, in Manhattan, New York, and although Agnes has since lived in several states, the sassy New Yorker in her always remained.
After meeting the love of her life at an Irish County dance, their courtship led to a beautiful marriage. Their journey together began on a lovely day in April of 1964 in Queens, NY. They were soon blessed with the birth of her wonderful son and several years later, a beautiful daughter.
While raising her two children Agnes found her true passion and decided to pursue her studies in Early Childhood and Special Education, graduating with her Bachelor’s degree from William Patterson University in 1984. She dedicated herself to helping ensure her students received the best educational experience while providing a nurturing and caring environment until her retirement in June of 2000.
Agnes also had a passion for all things creative, especially her love of painting with watercolors. She had a deep love for all the beauty found in nature, namely the vibrant and magnificent colors of different species of birds. She would call these colors “God’s colors that no man could replicate”.
Agnes is survived by her loving husband of 59 years Edward McDermott, her generous son and daughter-in-law Michael and Janet McDermott, and her caring daughter and son-in-law Christine and Mark Meier. She is also survived by her only grandson, her pride and joy, Matthew McDermott.
