Alan Kukla passed away peacefully in Rock Hill, SC on October 21, 2022. He was 76 years old.
Alan was born on November 16, 1945, in Cleveland, Ohio, and was the son of Frank and Mildred Kukla. He has a younger brother, Robert Kukla. He attended college at Utah State University where he earned his Master’s Degree in Chemistry. Afterwards, he lived and worked in Soda Springs, Idaho for several years and then moved to Chugiak, Alaska in 1979. Alan and his wife Sharen lived in Alaska for 31 years along with their daughter, Cydni Crain and two grandchildren, Ashton Crain, and Hayden Crain.
While in Alaska, Alan worked in the oil fields of Prudhoe Bay, Alaska where he was the supervisor of the chemistry laboratory. He retired from BP-British Petroleum and then took a job with the State of Alaska and worked for the Department of Environmental Conservation-Division of Air and Water Quality office in Anchorage, Alaska for several years.
He loved everything that Alaska had to offer! Alan and Sharen built their own home there and made it a special place for their family and friends to often gather and visit. Alan was an avid fisherman and he enjoyed moose and caribou hunting. He was also a woodworker and he spent countless days working in his shop and building projects for their homestead, grandchildren, neighbors, and friends. He was always willing to lend a hand to someone in need and was constantly helping others with their projects as well.
In 2010 Alan and Sharen both retired and moved to Coshocton, Ohio where they built a home and managed their 150-acre farm. They enjoyed the retired life and continued to build strong relationships within their community and church while in Coshocton. They attended Pleasant Hill Church and enjoyed the friendships and fellowship with the congregation there.
Surviving him are his daughter, Cydni Crain and her husband Tom Crain, his brother Robert Kukla, his two grandchildren Ashton Crain and Hayden Crain, and his three great grandchildren. He was a widower of Sharen Kukla who preceded him in death in 2018. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Clella (Burgoyne) in 1978 while residing in Soda Spring, Idaho.
At the wishes of Alan Kukla, there will not be a formal service, rather, the immediate family will be having a private gathering to honor his life while he was with us. In lieu of cards or flowers, please consider a donation in memory of Alan and Sharen Kukla to Pleasant Hill Church, c/o Pastor Joel and Susan Mason, 19701 Township Road 310, Coshocton, Ohio 43812-9510
