Alene Maloney Marett

Alene Maloney Marett, 96, of 1546 Alexander Rd. passed away Friday June 18, 2010 at Piedmont Medical Center. A daughter of the late Joseph and Julanne Maloney Mrs. Marett was the organist for her church, Oakland Baptist, for 35 years as well as being the organist for Bass Funeral Home for over 50 years. She attended Erskine College for several years before completing organ studies at Winthrop College. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years Robert H. Marett; two daughters Peggy Sue and Jane Ivey Marett; two brothers Joe Saye Maloney of Spartanburg, Charles Maloney and wife Louise of Rock Hill; and one sister Nannie Eudora Rhodes and her husband Herman Rhodes of Rock Hill. Surviving are her children Joe Marett and wife Janis of Rock Hill and Sylvia "Marett" Curl and her husband Fred of Virginia; five grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and Joe Saye Maloney's wife Banna of Spartanburg. A service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Marett will be held Monday June 21, 2010 at 11:00am at Oakland Baptist Church with Dr. Bob Shrum officiating. Burial will follow the service at Grandview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at Bass-Cauthen Funeral Home from 7:00-8:30pm on Sunday June 20, 2010.
