Alexander William Guerrero passed away peacefully at the age of 20 on Friday, February 16, 2018 at 8:15 am at his home in Fort Mill, SC surrounded by family and friends. Alex is survived by his wife, Morgan Gaile (Krohn) Guerrero, mother, Pati Guerrero, and his father, Luis Guerrero.
Alexander was born on Friday, August 15, 1997 in Rock Hill, SC. He started his education at St. Anne's Catholic School in Rock Hill, SC and continued at York Elementary School and he later moved on to Fort Mill school district where he graduated from Nation Ford High School with the Class of 2015.
Alex triumphed at several sports, but soccer was his passion. He played soccer within his school district as well as at Leroy Springs in Fort Mill, Steele Creek in Charlotte, NC and Discoveries Soccer Club in Rock Hill. He then went onto coaching 8 and 9 year olds when he was 17.
Alex was also a Jeep enthusiast and enjoyed customizing his own Arctic Blue Jeep (Cream Puff). Alex learned everything he knew about Jeeps from his neighbor, friend, and big brother Peter Bartell, who introduced Alex to his life of off-roading, which Alex fell in love with.
After his diagnosis with osteosarcoma in his right knee, he was treated at Levine's Children's Hospital where he was inspired by his Oncologist, Dr. Jennifer Pope, and medical team. He went through several rounds of chemotherapy, knee replacement, amputation, and radiation. He fought an admirable battle that has inspired many people.
Despite battling cancer, it motivated him to continue his dream of giving back. He became an ambassador for foreign students at the College of Charleston, where he studied Biology and Public Health in hopes of becoming a pediatric oncology nurse.
His drive of becoming a pediatric oncology nurse led him to volunteering at MUSC Children's Hospital on the Hematology/Oncology floor. He also got involved with Camp Happy Days, a nonprofit organization for children with cancer and their families in Charleston, SC, where he met his soul mate and love of his life, Morgan Gaile (Krohn) Guerrero, on July 1st 2017. Alex and Morgan professed their love to one another in marriage on February 13, 2018 with the blessing of Rev. John Giuliani, C.O., Pastor of Saint Philip Neri Catholic Church in Fort Mill, SC.
Alex was known for his charismatic, fun, easy-going, and sarcastic personality that made him magnetize others to himself. He has a large group of people that love him dearly from around the world. Alex inspired and at the same time drew inspiration from the many people that knew him and his fight.
In Alex's own words, his wish is to be remembered and kept alive in the hearts of his family and friends as "a strong independent young man with the dream of becoming a nurse and living a life filled with God and service to others."
