Alice Regina Harris, 75, of Fort Mill, SC, (formerly of Bronx, NY and Mechanicsburg, PA), entered into rest on Monday, November 20, 2023, surrounded by her loving sons and younger sisters. She was born February 19, 1948, in Bronx, NY, daughter of Stephen J. Dowling and Helen Dowling (Donohue).
Alice was one of eight children in a very close family. Her eldest sibling, Ann (Dowling) Ingwersen, whom she greatly admired, preceded her in passing. She was the godchild of her eldest surviving brother, Stephen J. Dowling, and remained close to him throughout her life. She is also preceded in passing by her older sister, Jane (Dowling) Biebrich, whom she loved dearly. Alice is survived by two additional older brothers that she has always looked up to, J. Michael Dowling and Joseph Dowling. Lastly, she is survived by her younger sisters, Mary Ellen (Dowling) Heaney and Kathleen (Dowling) Frey, with whom she has always shared a special bond.
Alice was known for her spirit and gift for making everyone around her laugh. If she wasn’t reading or sitting by the beach, you could find her competitively engaged in a game night or enthralled in watching Jeopardy!. She loved to spend quality time with members of her family, and often would cook up a feast to bring people together. Outside of conversation, Alice loved to sing and could consistently be counted on for a Karaoke night.
More than anything, Alice was devoted to her late husband, Howard Harris with whom she shared an enviable bond. They were as close as any couple could hope to be. She leaves a lasting legacy to be cherished by her sons, Andrew Harris and his wife, Kelly, and Chris Harris and his wife, Ariana, of Charlotte, NC. Alice was known as Nana to her 5 grandchildren, Hudson, Anderson, Elliott, Nora, and Emilia “Emmie”. Being a Nana was what brought Alice the most joy in her last years of life.
A Celebration of life to remember Alice as a devoted wife, mother, nana, sister, and friend will be held at Palmetto Funeral Group in Fort Mill, SC on Wednesday, November 22, 2023. There will be visitation held at 1pm, service at 2pm, and a reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Veterans of Foreign Wars as Alice would have wanted to continue to honor Howard in this way.
