Alma Elizabeth Coleman, 91, of Robesonia, Pennsylvania, peacefully passed away on Sunday, December 1st, 2024, at her residence in Gastonia, NC. Alma was born on May 13,1933 in Hornell, NY, daughter of Julia Spalding and Kenneth Paul. She was raised by Effie and Frederick Atkins.
In addition to her parents and foster parents, she was preceded in death by her first child, Cathy Ann Coleman in 1956, her sister, Catherine Blazick in 2023 and her dearly beloved husband, Ronald C. Coleman in June of 1997.
Alma graduated from Hornell High School in 1951 and later graduated from McCann School of Business in Wyomissing, PA. She was president of Epsilon Chapter, Sigma Pi Rho Sorority as a young woman, and later PTA president, Camp Fire Girl leader, literacy council tutor, and volunteer at Berks Visiting Nurses. Alma enjoyed reading, camping, motorcycling, boating, and luncheons with her friends. She preferred driving her own motorcycle over riding on the back of her husband’s motorcycle. They took many trips going as far west as Utah. Alma never met a stranger, striking up a conversation with folks everywhere she went.
Alma particularly loved seeing all her family around one table in her home and enjoyed cooking, baking, decorating, and all the trappings of entertaining her family. She will forever be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Her grandchildren are blessed to have many memories with their grandmother.
Alma leaves a lasting legacy to be cherished by her survivors, her daughter Susan Abromitis (Ray) of Tega Cay, SC, son, James Coleman (Denise) of Fleetwood PA; grandchildren, Amanda Madonia (Ben) of Nashville, TN, Kaitlyn Goliszek (Paul) of Charlotte, NC, Douglas Coleman (Lauren) of Pottstown, PA; great-grandchildren, Adrienne and Campbell Madonia, Coleman and Sophia Goliszek; nephew, Steven Blazick (Marti) of Lewiston, NY, niece, Jody Wienke (Jim) of Niagara Falls, NY; and many grand and great nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life service will be held by the family in May 2025.
Alma was a generous supporter of the Shriner’s, St. Jude, Evangelical Congressional Church Center (ECC) in Myerstown, PA and other local charities in Berks County, PA. She would have appreciated any donation to these organizations in her memory.
