Andrew Richard Flowers

July 7, 1950 — December 16, 2022

Charlotte, NC

Andrew Richard Flowers passed away on December 16, 2022 at Hospice House in Charlotte after a short illness.

There is a bit more laughter behind the pearly gates today because Andy Flowers has arrived. There’s no doubt he has the angels in stitches because he loved to make people laugh.

Andy was born on July 7, 1950 to James David Flowers and Doris Mae Jones Flowers. He leaves behind his wife, Leta Brittain Flowers, son Andrew Travis Flowers, daughter Kelly Christian and son in law Jason Cowan, and grandchildren Kanah, Grace, Salem and Savannah Jane. He also leaves behind his brother, Jim Flowers (Christie), sisters

Becky Wilson (Billy) and Ruth Flowers, and his best friend Richard Pearsall (Carol), along with special cousins, brothers and sisters in law, and seven nieces and nephews and their children. Andy treasured so many great friendships throughout his lifetime. Too many to list...but you know who you are.

Andy was so proud of his family and they had many wonderful times together, especially at the beach or in the mountains. On those annual family beach trips, he earned the moniker “Captain Andy” as he manufactured fun with boogie boards, horseshoes or Kadima paddles.

Andy graduated in 1969 from Myers Park High School and attended CPCC. He joined his uncle and brother Jim at Jones Textiles and enjoyed a long and successful career where he earned admiration and respect from customers and suppliers. Andy loved his country and was proud to have served in the Army National Guard.

Andy enjoyed serving and caring for others. He taught children at Forest Hill Church and Moments of Hope Church, and his kids have many sweet memories of their time with Mr. Andy! He also served at the Dilworth Soup Kitchen, taking his mother’s place after she passed away. Neighbors and friends loved Andy. he was always there to lend a helping hand or have a good talk. Andy had a strong faith that did not waver in his last days on earth, knowing he would soon be in heaven and hugging his mom, and also seeing his sister-in-law Lee who passed shortly before him. They joked that they would make a ruckus in heaven together!

Andy was legendary for his sharp wit and sense of humor. He never met a stranger and there was always laughter when he was around. Even in his last days...heavily sedated and in pain, he was asked if he was hanging in there. In typical Andy fashion, he immediately quipped “Like a loose tooth”.

Many thanks to Hospice of Charlotte for their care and support during Andy’s final days with us!

Andy’s funeral will be held on Saturday, January 7 at 2 PM at Moments of Hope Church, 709-A International Drive, Charlotte, 28270.
