Annabelle "Ann" Robinson

October 27, 1926 — June 22, 2015

Annabelle "Ann" Robinson, 88, died Monday, June 22, 2015 at Agape Senior Post Acute Care Center in Rock Hill, SC. She was born in Page, ND on October 27, 1926 to the late Joseph and Ruby (Schroeder) Miller.
Ann was attending business school and working in Fargo, North Dakota when she met and married Ray M. Robinson on December 22, 1947 in Fargo. Ann was a talented executive secretary for 25 years and when she was hired for a position as Director of Human Resources for Steel Company, her life dream was reached. She held that position for 11 years. When her male employees got company cars and she didn't, and they were paid a third again more than she was, she sued the company for discrimination. As a result, she lost her job and was blackballed from the business. She was quite instrumental in breaking the glass ceiling for women in the business world. At 59, while trying to find new employment, she would go to a large clothing mart to do odd jobs because she loved fashion. There, she was offered a job selling blue jeans store to store in Western Pennsylvania. Using only credit at first, she established herself in the business and became a sales representative for several clothing lines. Her territory covered a large part of the eastern United States, and for a short time Texas. She worked hard long hours for many years until she finally shut down her S Corp and fully retired in 2010 at the age of 84. In that time, she managed to pay off several cars and a house, and save sufficient funds to support herself for two years in Assisted Living. A very gutsy and determined woman indeed! In March of 2013, she had a severe stroke and was moved to Agape Senior Assisted Living in Rock Hill, SC. This is near one of her sons.
When she had free time, Ann was a wonderful seamstress, she loved to read and knit, she collected dolls and was especially passionate about researching her family genealogy.
Left with many loving memories are her daughter Wanda (Guy) Goode of Calumet, Michigan, and sons Daniel (Janet) Robinson of Bay City, MI and Timothy Robinson Sr. of Tega Cay, SC. Ann is also survived by her grandchildren Theresa Bills of San Diego, CA; Wendy Cary of Charlottesville, VA; Cheryl (Luke) Catella of Titusville, FL; Terry and Scott Robinson of Bay City, MI; Sarah Robinson of Floyd, VA and Timothy Robinson Jr. of Alexandria, VA. She also leaves the following great-grandchildren: Jaimie and Justin Cary and Luna and Elizabeth Robinson. Also surviving are her sisters Ellen Anderson of Hitterdal, MN; Ruby (Jennings) Johnston of Buffalo, MN; and her brother Joseph Miller of Waubun, MN and a niece and four nephews in MN.
She was preceeded in death by her son Alan Robinson, her granddaughter Elizabeth Robinson, her daughter-in-law Billie White Robinson, and her brothers James "Bud" and Louis Miller, and sisters Della and Mary Miller.
Ann's family expresses special thanks to the nurses and staff at the Agape Senior Assisted Living Enhanced Care Unit and Agape Senior Post Acute Care Center, both in Rock Hill, SC, as well as the doctors who have cared for her the last two years. Special thanks also to Tim and Billie Robinson who have spent many hours supervising Ann's care.
Ann's remains will be cremated and the ashes will be interred in the Philadelphia United Methodist Church Cemetery in Fort Mill, SC. A small memorial service will be held for her at the interment at 9 AM on Saturday, June 27, 2015.
Palmetto Funeral Home and Crematory of Fort Mill, SC served the family.
