Anne Bailey "Aunt Ran" Royall

October 13, 1913 — July 9, 2014

Anne Bailey Royall (born October 13, 1913) died peacefully in her sleep on July 9, 2014 at the glorious age of 100. Anne (Aunt Ran to everyone) was one of the seven children of Emily Dupre Royall and Lee Royall. She joins her siblings John Edward Royall, Emily R Lucas, Sarah R Hamlin, Lee Royall, Jervey Dupre Royall, Sue R. Horton, nephew Johnny Hamlin and her parents in going home. Surviving are her sister-in-law Mary Julia Royall and devoted brother-in-law Rev. Thomas Walter Horton, Jr., and Nieces Emily Burn and husband Bobby, Jane Royall and husband John, Laura Thornton, Julia Royall and husband Brian, Mary Scheper and husband Fred, Anne Royall, caretakers Susan Van Zile and husband David, Nephews John Royall and wife Julia, Robert Royall and wife Patti, Thomas Horton and wife Sandy. She was also blessed by many devoted grandnieces, grandnephews, great grandnieces and grandnephews and many cousins and friends throughout her 100 years. Aunt Ran was raised in Mt. Pleasant, SC as part of a large extended family. She grew up as a fiercely independent woman who took care of so many throughout her long and happy life. For many years she was the caregiver for her mother while holding down a full time job and leading at her church through "Pioneers"- the church youth group. She influenced so many, both young and old, during her life and was always there for anyone and everyone. She never met a stranger and, to her, everyone was "Darlin". Before and during the war, Aunt Ran worked at Ft. Moultrie and the Navy Yard in various roles. She was the executive secretary at Palmetto Shipping for many years until her retirement in 1978. In 1982, she left her beloved Mt. Pleasant and Charleston to join her sister Sue and family in Rock Hill, SC. She enjoyed many years of service to her church, Oakland Avenue Presbyterian, and the Rock Hill community through Hope, Red Cross, and Hospice. She was active in Amelia Pride and Presbyterian Women's circles well into her late 80s. Although she had no children of her own, she was totally and entirely devoted to her large family and they, in turn, loved her completely. She loved life, and she loved to laugh. Her smile and great heart impacted all those with whom she had contact. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hospice and Community Care of Rock Hill, HOPE or Oakland Avenue Presbyterian Church. The family would like to offer special thanks and gratitude to the nurses and staff at Hospice, the Manor and the Health Center at Westminster Towers for their devotion and care during Aunt Ran's last days. A memorial service to celebrate Aunt Ran's life will be held at Friday at 10:30 a.m.at Oakland Avenue Presbyterian Church with visitation to follow the service. A memorial service will be held in Mt. Pleasant at a later date.
