Arlene Parrish (Rock Hill, SC). Mary Arlene Parrish, 61, passed away Friday, Nov. 7, 2014 at CMC Pineville after a brief illness. Arlene was born on June 17, 1953 and was a life-long resident of Rock Hill. She graduated from Rock Hill High School in 1971 and received a B.S. from Winthrop University in 1975. She also received a certificate in Cytotechnology from the Medical University of South Carolina in 1976 and an M.S. from Winthrop University in 1985. Arlene was a Registered Specialist in Cytotechnology with the American Society of Clinical Pathologists and a Registered Cytotechnologist with the International Academy of Cytotechnology. Arlene was the Program Chair of the Cytotechnology program at CPCC, and her legacy is the students she mentored and trained in that program since joining CPCC in 1991. She loved genealogy and history, and was an active member of Daughters of the American Revolution, where she served as a state officer. She also served as President of the Beulah Meredith Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy. Arlene's friends and colleagues remember her intelligence, honesty, integrity, compassion, kindness and her wicked sense of humor. She is preceded in death by her father, William Kelly Parrish. Survivors include her mother, Margaret Parrish, her brother, Tim Parrish (Naomi), her sisters Betty Carroll, Ann Shugart (Jim), Terry Knotts (Frank), Cynthia McCrory (Kevin), ten nieces and nephews, eleven great nieces and nephews, seven great -great nieces and nephews and her companion, Tom Wallace. She was dearly loved. The family will receive friends at Bass-Cauthen Funeral Home, 700 Heckle Boulevard, Rock Hill, SC Monday evening, Nov. 10, from 6 p.m., to 8 p.m. A private service and burial will follow at a later date, with the Reverend Jim Parrish officiating.
