Ashley Braswell Maynard, age 45, left this earth early in the morning on Wednesday, October 23rd at her home in Fort Mill, SC.
Ashley was born on December 3rd, 1978 in Winston-Salem, NC to Sherrill and Susie Braswell. She graduated from Mount Tabor High School and then the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a degree in Psychology.
Ashley married John Maynard in 2018, and he was her partner and the love of her life. The backyard barbecue where they met changed her life. She doted on their beloved dogs, Bubba and Tater.
Ashley was immediately lovable and always approachable. Children were drawn to her energy and her infectious, fun-loving spirit. Her favorite days were spent being Aunt Ashley, loving on her niece and nephews. She was wildly funny and witty, and southern sayings rolled hysterically off her tongue. Ashley was as strong as the Steel Magnolias that she loved to quote, and this strength was evident as she cared for her precious warrior Mom during her battle with ALS. She was really good at being a friend - which is why she gathered many. She knew the lyrics for hundreds of songs and loved to dance, and particularly loved Lionel Richie. The sun and the beach were always calling Ashley, and she relished planning island trips with John and their girls. Ashley was enormously proud of her sister Kelly and found great strength in their unbreakable bond. Her love was honest and open, and she was happy to say “I love you.” Her heart was true.
Ashley is survived by her husband John; stepchildren Clara Jane and Elizabeth; father Sherrill and stepmother Jenny; sister Kelly and brother-in-law Lanny; nephews Grey and Myles and niece Phoebe.
Ashley was preceded in death by her mother Susan Francis Braswell, and her brother Kevin Harmon Braswell.
Ashley will be remembered for her beautiful smile, infectious laugh, kind presence and fiery spirit that served to strengthen and energize everyone she met. Her empathy and wide open heart will be hallmarks of her time with us.
A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, November 9th at 1pm in the Memory Garden at Mount Tabor United Methodist Church in Winston-Salem. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the ALS Association. Following the service will be a visitation with refreshments inside the church.
