Barbara Ann (Couick) Benfield

With profound sadness we announce the passing of Barbara Ann (Couick) Benfield, our loving and devoted mother, grandmother, sister and friend to all whose lives she touched, on February 22nd, 2024. She peacefully left us while surrounded by her family at her residence in Catawba, SC. She was in her 76th year. She was born June 10, 1947, in Union County, a daughter of the late Johnny Nelson Couick and Mattie Jean Warlick.

After obtaining her GED, she worked for the Rock Hill School District as a bus driver for 28 years. After retiring from the school district, she then worked as a manager at Carowinds for 20 years.

She was a member of Inspiration Baptist Church and enjoyed spending her time at the Rock Hill Senior Center, hosting BINGO and making crafts. Barbara enjoyed coloring, taking joy rides in her red, convertible beetle and spending time with her family.

Barbara was predeceased by her husband, Bobby Gene Benefield, her father, Johnny Nelson Couick, her mother, Mattie Jean Warlick, her daughter, Barbara Annette Hubbard, her two brothers, Lee Royce Couick and Johnny Douglas “Doug” Couick, and her sister, Margaret Lois Couick. Survivors include the father of her children, Hazel Edward Brown Sr., her two sons, Hazel Edward “Eddie” Brown Jr. and wife Tammy, Lugoff, SC; John Jeffrey Brown and wife Sherri, Catawba, SC; brother, Floyd Benfield, Boone, NC; and two sisters, Jean Barker, Rock Hill, SC, and Saundra King, Atlanta, GA; sixteen grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

Visitation will be held at Bass Cauthen Funeral Home on Monday, February 26th, 2024 from 6:00pm-8:00pm.

Funeral will be held at Inspiration Baptist Church at 2:00pm on Tuesday, February 27th, 2024.
