Barbara Wellman Ervin

Barbara Wellman Ervin , 77, of Cowpens, SC, passed away on Monday, February 5, 2018 at her home. She was born on July 25, 1940, in York County, SC. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Huffman Wellman and Edith Sain Wellman and her daughter, Catherine Ervin Overstreet.

In addition to her son, David Ervin, Jr, of Cowpens, SC, and her daughter Tiffany Ervin of Flat Rock, NC; she is also survived by her sisters, Robbie Yarborough and husband, Sammy of Lancaster, SC, and Betty Moore and husband, Banks of Indian Land, SC; and her brother, James “Dickie” Wellman and wife, Barbara of Clinton, SC. Barbara was proud to be “Nanny” to her three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and family friends.

A graduate of Indian Land High School, Barbara retired from Progress Lighting in Cowpens after more than 26 years. She was a member of the Garden Club and Salem United Methodist Church. She volunteered for many years with the Miss America Organization on both the local and state level, and enjoyed sharing her vocal talents with others as a soloist for churches and special events.

A Graveside Service will be at 11:00 AM, Thursday, February 8, 2018 at Belair United Methodist Church Cemetery, 8095 Shelley Mullis Road, in Indian Land, SC with Rev. David F. Ervin, Sr. officiating.

The family will receive friends from 3:30-4:30 PM, Thursday, February 8, 2018 at Salem United Methodist Church, 5425 N. Main Street, in Cowpens, SC, immediately followed by a memorial service at 4:30 PM with Rev. David F. Ervin, Sr. and Rev. Dustin R. Madala officiating.


In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to The CART Fund (Coins for Alzheimer’s Research Trust) and mailed to 17 Ches Drive, Franklin, NC 28734.
