Barbara A. Hipwell passed away at home on May 20th after a brief illness surrounded by her children at the age of 84.
She had been retired from the New York State Department of Education for over twenty years where she held various positions specializing in record keeping. While living in Scotia, Barbara loved taking day trips with her many friends on Wade Tours. She was an active member of the Glenville Senior Center and enjoyed various exercise classes. In 2015, she relocated to Fort Mill, South Carolina to be closer to her family. Here, Barbara found a new home, great friends and a new purpose within the community of Stonecrest Villas. She served on the Communications Committee for several years and participated in many social functions and events. She was a long- time volunteer at both the Pawsabilities Thrift Store and accompanying Christmas shop.
Barbara is predeceased by her husband John (Jack) Hipwell. She is also predeceased by her parents Sarah and Roger Burhans, her sister Mary and her brother Roger.
Barbara is survived by her daughters Elaine and Donna as well as her sons Matthew and Michael. She is also survived by her sisters Gert and Janet, her sisters-in-law Helene, Marcia, Charlotte and Barbara, many nieces and nephews, as well as her lifelong friend Barbara Gage
A visitation will be held at Palmetto Funeral Home located at 2049 Carolina Place Drive in Fort Mill on Friday May 24 th from 5-7 p.m.
