Barbara Taylor Lane

February 23, 1934 — January 1, 2011

Barbara Taylor Lane, (Pete), passed away on January 1, 2011 at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill, South Carolina after a brief illness. She was surrounded by her family and her passing was peaceful.


She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. Taylor and Mrs. Annie Taylor of York County; her husband, Herbert John Lane (Babe), of Rock Hill; one son, Eric Marett; and one stepson, Johnny Lane.

She is survived by 2 sons, Wane Marett and Gene Lane, both of Rock Hill; and by three step-sons, Bobby Lane, Bill Lane, Teddy Lane; and one step-daughter, Sylvia (Lane) Crocker, all of Rock Hill. She is also survived by two granddaughters, Rebecca (Marett) Brown of Wilmington, NC and Jessica Brantley of Daytona Beach, FL, as well as thirteen step-grandchildren and twenty step great-grandchildren.

Barbara, who was known to all as "Pete", was a devoted wife and loving mother. She was loved by all who knew her as a generous and kind-hearted soul who was always ready with a kind word and a smile. She was quick witted, fun loving and was considered the 'life of the party'. "Pete" was known by all as an excellent cook who enjoyed serving Sunday dinners to family and friends. One of her most endearing traits was her kindness and consideration of others and her willingness to put others before herself. She was a Baptist and held faith in Jesus Christ. Pete will be remembered and loved, and she will be missed by many.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, at Eastside Baptist Church. The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the church. Burial will be in Unity Cemetery.
