Barbara M. Oertel

Mrs. Barbara M. Oertel, 59, passed away Saturday, June 2, 2012. A native of Plainfield, NJ, she was a daughter of the late Alex and Grace Dobruckie. Born January 11, 1953, she was employed by the Rock Hill School District as a substitute teacher and worked for Challenger, an after school program at Ebinport Elementary. Barbara enjoyed crafts, photography, kayaking and being involved with the Boy Scouts of America. She was a truly selfless person who gave countless hours of her time to other people. Surviving are her husband Alan Oertel; two sons, Tim Oertel and Thomas Oertel both of Rock Hill; one sister Patricia Hill and her husband, Gary of Pennsylvania; and many other family and friends. A memorial service to celebrate Barbara's life will be held Thursday at 7:00pm in the Chapel of Bass-Cauthen Funeral Home with Father Paul Breninkmeyer officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00pm until the hour of service on Thursday at Bass-Cauthen Funeral Home. Memorials in honor of Barbara may be made to the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation, 2901 N. Davidson Street #150, Charlotte, NC 28205-1084.
