Barbara Lene Tidwell

Barbara Lene (Bobbielean,"Bob") Young Tidwell was born September 25, 1948 in Itta Bena, Mississippi to the late Eddie "Buster" & Annie Bell "Madea" Young. She was enthusiastic about life early on and displayed this through interest in music, art, nature, history and the English language; because her mother was a school teacher. As a student at Amanda Elzy High school she participated in Speech Choir, track, and various sports. She was known to be outgoing, always eager to enjoy a good laugh and some mischief with friends. She was also known for her singing and dancing capabilities. While attending High School she met her future husband, Samuel Tidwell, whom she graduated with in 1966. Following High School Graduation she followed her older brother and sister to California. While there she attended El Camino College for advanced Cobalt & assembler language. She further pursued Computer Programming at Telco Institute of Technology in Los Angeles, Ca. While there she cared for her special niece Tessie. She was also introduced to the Christian Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses at that time. Barbara married the love of her life Samuel Tidwell on December 28th 1979. They settled in Gary to raise their family. She made her public declaration to Jehovah by water Baptism May of 1982. The house on E. 13th Ave. was a vibrant gathering place for family, friends and brothers and sisters from the Kingdom Hall. Barbara was known far and wide for her down home scratch cooking. She never cut corners and loved to see people eat her food in delight. Above all else her garden was her pride, joy, escape and extreme passion. Barbara began her career at GMAC in 1985. She was a faithful employee and relocated several times with the company in Merrillville, IN, Orland Park, IL, Pontiac, MI and lastly Charlotte, NC. She brought a scrabble board into every office. She left a loving impression on all of her coworkers. The friendships she made there extended beyond the bounds of the office even after she retired. Sis.Tidwell found much delight in her service to Jehovah. The preaching work availed her to combine her vast bible knowledge, knack for oratory and special way of connecting with people to further spread the kingdom message. Singing Kingdom Melodies was one of her most favorite things to do with her children and grandchildren. Barbara was proceeded in death by her parents Anniebell and Eddie Young; Siblings Eddie Lewis, Harold Weeks, Bernetta Hollis, Mary Alice Journey ; Child Carlos R. Young. Barbara leaves to celebrate her life, love and laughter her husband, Samuel Tidwell of Rock Hill, South Carolina; one son Ephraim N. Rutledge (Erica) grandchildren Aaron M., Carlos M., Erianna S.L. and Anyla N. of Michigan City, Indiana; three daughters Samantha L. Tidwell grandchild Savaya A. L. of Rock Hill, South Carolina, Azalea Tidwell Carter (Anthony) grandchild Christopher A. of Cleveland, Ohio, Mellonese James (William R.) of Chicago, Illinois, two brothers Ephraim Young (LaVonne) of Woodbury, Minnesota and Eddie Young Jr.(Terry) of Picayune, Mississippi., 3 sisters Annette White Jackson (Isaiah) of Arlington, Texas, Eddie Mae Thomas of Shreveport, Louisiana, and Johnnie Mae Young of Jackson, Mississippi. Special Niece Anne "Tessie" Williams (Walter) of Memphis Tennessee; Special Friends Amy Arch of Phoenix, Arizona and Dorothy Nelson of Rock Hill, South Carolina. She leaves a host of cousins, friends, spiritual siblings and nieces & nephews that she treated like her own children. A visitation will be held on Friday, February 24, 2017 from 6-8pm at Bass Cauthen Funeral Home. The service will be held on Saturday, February 25, 2017 at 1pm at the Bass Cauthen Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow the service at Rock Hill Memorial Gardens. Online condolences may be registered at www.basscares.com.
