Barbara Kirchner Vey, 93, went home to be with the Lord on December 20, 2024. She died peacefully at her home in Greenway Square Retirement Community, Indian Land, SC. The youngest child of Philip and Isobel Davidson Kirchner, she was born July 22, 1931 in Montclair, NJ and she spent her childhood in Bloomeld, NJ. She was predeceased by her husband of 52 years, James Hobart Vey and her 4 siblings. Barbara was a faithful member of First Presbyterian Church of Sparta, NJ from 1955 until her move to South Carolina in 2015. She and her husband operated Vey Adjustment Bureau until his death and continued her employment there until 2013. Barbara and Jim opened their home to several foreign exchange students and other youth needing a temporary place to call home over the years. Barbara was instrumental in creating and guiding Youth Employment Service (YES) in the late 1960’s where Sparta youth could connect with local residents needing help with odd jobs and babysitting. She enjoyed learning, reading, traveling and was artistically gifted, mastering faux painting which she parlayed into a business in her 50’s. Her love for the Lord, Whom she served, was unwavering. Wherever she lived, she initiated and usually led a bible study. Sharing the good news of Jesus Christ was central to her life. Barbara is survived by her daughters, Gwili Marsh (Ralph), Megan Wilson (Thomas) and Gwenyth Hemmers (Peter), 9 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and her close friend and confidant, Bernie May.
