Bernd Wolfgang Ebert

Bernd Wolfgang Ebert, passed away Wednesday, April 18, 2012 at CMC - Pineville, he was 73. Mr. Ebert was born in Taucha by Leipzig Germany on March 4, 1939 as son of Fritz and Hildegard Ebert. Bernd spent his childhood and youth in the former East Germany. He married Regina Landrock in 1959 and in 1961, he and Regina set out on the dangerous and life threatening escape to West Germany to start a new life in a free country. Bernd started his 39 year career with Barmag, a textile machinery manufacturer in Remscheid-Lennep, Germany. In 1967 he was transferred to American Barmag Corporation, a newly formed sales and service organization, in Charlotte, NC. Here he started as a welder becoming Customer Service Manager and Manufacturing Manager. Upon his retirement in 2001, he and Regina built their dream home on Lake Wylie in Tega Cay, SC. Bernd was a member of Carmel Presbyterian Church in Charlotte, NC for many years and is a member of Grace Presbyterian Church in Fort Mill, SC. He served as an Elder in both churches. He was a volunteer at CMC - Pineville, a member of the Tega Cay Fire Department and a Paul Harris Fellow of the Rotary Foundation of Rotary International. Bernd is survived by his wife of 52 years, Regina Ebert of Tega Cay; his brother, Frank Ebert (Erika) of Zwickau/Planitz, Germany; his son, Holger Ebert (Beth) of Charlotte; his daughter, Katrin Schultze (John) of Charlotte; his son, Andy Ebert (Robin) of Charlotte as well as grandchildren, Ian and Kellan Ebert of Charlotte; Alexander and Nicholas Schultze of Charlotte; and Samantha and Kristin Ebert of Charlotte. A memorial service will be held 1:00 PM, Saturday, April 21, 2012 at Grace Presbyterian Church in Fort Mill, SC with Pastor Joanne C. Sizoo officiating. In lieu of flowers, the Family asks memorial contributions may be made to Thornwell Home for Children in care of Grace Presbyterian Church, Grace Presbyterian Church Endowment Fund (2955 W. Hwy. 160, Fort Mill, SC 29708) or Tega Cay Volunteer Fire Department (7200 Tega Cay Dr., Tega Cay, SC 29708).
