In 1941, Bertha graduated from State Teachers College in Farmville, Virginia, where she majored in Home Economics and minored in Science. In the fall of 1941 she received a teaching position at Alexander Graham Junior High School in Charlotte, NC. There she met Grant, the school's football coach, and fell in love immediately. To the glory of God, Bertha poured herself out for others as a daughter, sister, wife, homemaker, mother, mother in law, friend and ambassador for Christ to all. After Grant's death, Bertha spent several delightful years living with her dear friend, Bette Stone, who was a gift from God to the whole family. Her last years were spent joyfully living in her home under the loving care of her eldest son, Grant.
