Bertie Irene Coggins Swanger

York - Mrs. Bertie Irene Coggins Swanger, 72, died Tuesday, January 24, 2017, at her home surrounded by her family, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, January 28, 2017, at Whitesell Funeral Home. The family will receive friends beginning at Noon at the funeral home.

A native of Abbeville, SC, Mrs. Swanger was a daughter of the late Francis Coggins and Geneva Freeman Coggins. She will be remembered as a hard worker as well as a mother who was dedicated to her family. Mrs. Swanger worked for J.P Stevens and later retired from Duke Energy after 23 years of service. She also worked for 18 years at Captain Steve's. She loved traveling with her sister to places like the beach and cruises. She was instrumental in helping Billy and Brenda Haire establish Fort Mill Funeral Home.

Surviving are two sons, Roger Collins of Fort Mill, and Jamie Collins (Kim) of Rock Hill; two daughters, Tammy Frailey (David) of Clover, and Teresa Windham (Jamie) of Gastonia, NC; a brother, Johnny Coggins (Saundra) of Rock Hill; a sister, Brenda Haire (Billy) of Fort Mill; 13 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren; and her beloved pet, Butter. She was preceded in death by a sister, Frances Lane.

The family would like to thank all who visited, called, sent cards, prayed and brought food during her illness. The family also wishes to extend gratitude to Hospice and Community Care and request that memorial donations be made to Hospice and Community Care, PO Box 993, Rock Hill, SC 29731.
