Mrs. Betty Akers, 71, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 17, 2018, at Palmetto Richland Hospital, Columbia, SC.
A native of Jefferson, SC, Mrs. Akers was the daughter of Samuel H. and Patsy Charlene Laney. She was employed for numerous years with Duke Power. She loved gardening and spending time with her family. She also enjoyed the beach and the mountains. She enjoyed making people laugh as she never met a stranger. She will be remembered as a one of a kind treasure.
Surviving is her loving husband of 37 years, Mr. Gary L. Akers; her son, Larry Woodrow “Woody” Smith, Jr.; two daughters, Patti S. Evans and her husband, Shannon, and Sandy S. Gee; two step-sons, Leon Akers and Barry Akers; 5 grandchildren, Andy Smith, Jake Hammond, Brooke Smith, Shiann Gee and Mason Evans; 3 great-grandchildren, Arianna Hammond, Bentley C Pittman, and Kye Smith; brothers and sisters, Patricia Hughes, Edith Smith, Wayne Laney, Richard Laney, Roger Laney (Charmine), Judy Templeton (Donald) and Larry “Bo” Laney; a brother-in-law, Tracey “Mountain Man” Akers; a sister-in-law, Jeanie Keen and her husband, Oadie; and numerous friends. She was preceded in death by a step-daughter, Debbie K. Bennett; a grandson, William Glenn Pittman; and three brothers, Robert “Bud” Laney, Dennis Laney and Jeff Laney.
Celebration of Life service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 7, 2018, at First Baptist Church Richburg, 165 Main Street, Richburg, SC, 29729, with the Rev. John Parris officiating. The family will receive friends following the service until 2:00 p.m. with refreshments being served.
