EDGEMOOR - Betty J. Johnson, 74, of 3291 Mount Holly Road, went home to be with the Lord Sunday, Aug. 24, 2008, at Piedmont Medical Center. A native of Shelby, N.C., Mrs. Johnson was born April 16, 1934. a daughter of the late William and Vadis Tinsley Leazer. She was a former employee of the York County Council on Aging with Meals on Wheels, was a caregiver and loved people. Mrs. Johnson was a member of Ultimate Life Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Johnson; and three brothers, Don and William Leazer and Walt Cooke. Surviving are two daughters, Linda Peninger and husband, Don, of York and Bonnie Clinton and husband, Tom, of Edgemoor; two stepdaughters, Betty Oliver of Shellman, Ga., and Gale Lusk of Lodge, S.C.; siblings, Robert Cooke of Lincolnton, N.C., Katherine McPherson of Statesville, N.C., Virginia Greggs of Charlotte, N.C., Pauline Blakeley of Columbia and Vivian Marks of Harrisburg, N.C.; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Bass-Cauthen Funeral Home. A service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Johnson will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Ultimate Life Church, 377 Rubin Center Drive, Suite 125, Fort Mill, with Pastor Barry Harmon officiating.
