Betty Whisonant Johnson went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, December 24, 2016, less than one day after her first-born child went to heaven. Betty was born December 11, 1929 to Joseph Leslie Whisonant and Alice Phillips Whisonant of Rock Hill, South Carolina. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Louise Whisonant Neely, and her daughter, Rhonda Johnson Logan. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Marvin Ray Johnson, Senior; her daughter, Linda Johnson Emerson (Forrest); her son, Marvin Ray Johnson, Junior (Kim); her son-in-law, John Ward Logan, Junior, all of Rock Hill; her grandchildren, Leigh Emerson Rogers (Patrick) of Charlotte, Sarah Emerson Vining (Seth) of Charleston, Jackson Holt Emerson of Rock Hill, Katherine Ward Logan Rutland (Jeffery) of Columbia, Caroline Elizabeth Logan, Austin Ray Johnson, and Addison Leslie Johnson, all of Rock Hill; and her great grandchildren, Alice Holleman Rogers, Forrest Macon Vining and Elizabeth Macaulay Rogers. Betty previously owned a local real estate company and enjoyed traveling with her husband, family, and close friends. She was passionately devoted to her husband and family and especially loved the Christmas season, making every Christmas special for her children and grandchildren. Betty was a lifetime member of Bethesda Presbyterian Church where she served as Elder, Deacon, Chairwoman of the Worship Committee and was a member of the Ione A. Williams Sunday School Class. She was a passionate reader of the Bible and enjoyed daily devotionals spending time with the Lord. Betty prayed for each family member on a daily basis. A memorial service will be held at Bethesda Presbyterian Church in York, South Carolina on December 28th at 11:00 am with the Reverend Doug Blaikie officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Betty's name to Bethesda Presbyterian Church, 4858 McConnell's Highway York, South Carolina 29745, 803-328-1360.
