Betty Jo Mills

Betty Jo Mills (nee Shoemaker), aged 89, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 1, 2024 at Rock Hill Acute Care Center. She was born on August 15, 1935 in West Virginia to George H., Sr. & Madalene (Garrison) Shoemaker. She was a resident of Baltimore, Maryland most of her life, graduating from Patterson Park High School in 1952. She married Buford Mills on November 6, 1954 and they were blessed with two beautiful children, Brenda Kay and Bryan Keith. They remained in Baltimore until they moved to Florida in 1990 to enjoy retirement. Then health issues brought them to South Carolina to be near their daughter.

Betty devoted her life to loving and caring for her husband and children. Her faith in God guided her throughout her life and she remained committed to serving the church and others. She exuded passion and joy for life. She immersed herself in many hobbies across her lifetime, including sewing, cake baking and decorating, traveling, photography, and painting. She was a generous hostess who found joy in welcoming others to her home. However, her greatest passion was music as she sang and played the piano, whether for her own enjoyment, entertaining friends, or worshipping the Lord.

Betty is survived by her daughter, Brenda (& Vincent, Jr.) Barone; son, Bryan; Betty is preceded in death by her brother George "Bud" Shoemaker and surviving spouse Joanne; sisters, Charlotte Willard and Evelyn (& Terry) Bonomo; grandchildren, Vincent Joseph Barone, III, Nicholas (& Cate) Barone, Casey Carmichael, and Corey Mills; great grandson, Kory Mills; and many other family members that she held dear to her heart. She will be greatly missed by all those whose lives she has touched.
