Betty Faye Sheets, 93, a beloved Mother, Grandmother, and Great-grandmother, died peacefully on Thursday, December 28th, 2023 in Fort Mill, South Carolina. Born on June 20th, 1930 in Little River County, Arkansas to William and Pearl Coleman, Betty lived a life filled with love, service, and endurance.
While working in Washington, D.C. at Arlington Farms, Betty met the love of her life, Carlos Edward (Ed) Sheets. They married in 1952 and began a life of military and government service together, Ed as a U.S. Army helicopter pilot and Betty as an accomplished clerical specialist and respected supervisor. Married for 30 years before Ed suddenly passed, they lived a full and loving life together, moving often and making friends all over the United States as well as during two assignments in Germany. Beyond her service to the country, Betty was a devoted mother, cherishing every moment spent with her four children. Despite the loss of two of her children at a young age, Sharon (8) and Alan (11), and daughter, Anita (68), Betty will always be remembered for her resilience and courage to carry-on and love deeply.
As a young Army wife, Betty joined an on-base bowling league to socialize with other military families and quickly developed a new passion. For over 50 years, Betty continued to bowl in leagues all over the United States, including leagues with her late husband, close friends, and multiple leagues with her late daughter, Anita and son-in-law Ted. Betty also had a passion and special talent for baking beautiful cakes. Over the course of her life, she baked hundreds of cakes for weddings and special occasions of friends and family.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Chief Warrant Officer-4 (CW4 - Retired) Ed Sheets, daughters Anita and Sharon, and her son Alan. She is survived by her son, Kenneth Sheets and his wife, Angela, and son-in-law Major (Retired) Ted Barila. She is also survived by her five grandchildren, Elizabeth Leventis (Jason), Major Ashleigh Roberds (Alex), Taylor Sheets (Ashley), Leslie Eldredge (Steven), and Michelle Cuccherini (Thomas), along with seven great grandchildren whom she adored.
A service to celebrate Betty's life will be held on Thursday, January 4th, 2024 at 3:00 p.m. at Unity Presbyterian Church - 303 Tom Hall Street, Fort Mill, SC. At a later date, Betty will be laid to rest alongside her late husband and children at Arlington National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to ASPCA ( https://secure.aspca.org/donate/memorial ), reflecting Betty's lifelong love for animals, or to Army Family and MWR ( https://webtrac.mwr.army.mil/donate ), supporting the organization that enabled many fun memories with her friends and family.
The family expresses heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff at Providence Care as well as the staff at The Blake at Baxter Village for their friendship and loving care provided to Betty.
Betty Sheets brought joy to all those around her. Her memory will be cherished by her family and friends, who will remember her for her warmth, her strength, and her love for all things Star Trek and good Southern food. May she rest in eternal peace.
