Billy Ray Allen, 78, passed away Monday April 19, 2010 after a long illness at home. Mr. Allen was born June 15, 1931 a son of the late Victor Allen and Ethel Belcher Allen along with one great grandchild Emilie Elliott; brothers Bobby Joe Allen, Jackie Leroy Allen, Tommy Allen, Charles Lemon and Jimmy Lemon; also sisters-in-law Ellen Jean Allen. He worked in the coal mines in the early 50's in Birchton W. Va., retired from General Motors in Parma Heights , OH. He was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church on McConnells Highway and also was a member of The Moose Lodge for over 30 years in Rock Hill. He is survived by his wife of 57 years Jeanette Cartwright Allen; one daughter Earcel Gail Allen Shue and husband Michael of York; one son Donald Ray "Block" Allen and wife Cadance; six grandchildren, twenty three great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; brothers Elwood Allen of Cleveland, OH, Cecel Allen and wife Viola of Chicago, IL, Joe Eddie Allen and wife Kay of Fayetteville, W.Va., Homer Lemon and wife Gloria of Brunswick, OH; sisters-in-law Helen Allen of Cleveland OH, Esther Allen Little Hocking, OH, Dartenella Allen of Naoma, W. Va., Peggy Lemon of Beckley W. Va., Nancy of Fairdale W. Va. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00pm Tuesday at Bass-Cauthen Funeral Home. A service to celebrate the life of Mr. Allen will be held Wednesday at 2:00pm in the chapel of Bass-Cauthen Funeral Home with Reverend Gary Huddleston officiating. Interment will follow at Lakeview Memory Gardens in York. The family would like to give thanks to Hospice and Community Care 2275 India Hook Road, in Rock Hill, especially Frankie, Claudine, Pricilla and Lee Dye for all the good work and kindness they gave during his last days here with us.
