Catawba - Mr. Billy Joe Baker, Sr., 67, of 742 Will Jones Circle, died Sunday, February 8, 2015, at his home.
Memorial services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday at his residence with Pastor Lee Dye officiating.
A native of Rock Hill, SC, Mr. Baker was a son of the late James Claude Baker, Sr. and Oney Estelle Shugart Baker. My brother, Billy grew up in a family of eleven children. He was the second youngest boy in a family of six boys and five girls. He spent his childhood years growing up in the Arcade-Victoria Mill Village in Rock Hill, SC. Billy was a Vietnam Veteran who was wounded in the war and was discharged from the U.S. Army. He returned home to Rock Hill with physical and emotional scars that haunted him until he died on Sunday morning, February 8, 2015. Billy was a loving and caring person who loved and cared for his family with a Big Heart. His true dedication to his family and his Country is a legacy to his undying love and affection.
Surviving are his companion of 20 years, Lynette Shehan;Three sons, Shawn Wesley Shehan (Crystale), Billy Joe Baker, Jr, and Ronnie Hedgepath.; three daughters, Nancy Baker Smith (Brian), Crystal Baker, and Sharon Fincher (Steve); two brothers, Ervin Baker and Bob Baker (Silvia); four sisters, Evelyn Baker Deyton, Grace Baker Neely (Donald), Tony Tinker (Charles) and Yvonne Baker Earle (Charlie); grandchildren, Makenzie, Trey, Kailand, Emily and numerous more grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers, James Claude Baker, Jr., Donnie Baker and Jack Baker; and a sister, Isabel Freeman.
