Brent Alan Detering, 65, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 28, 2021, at Piedmont Medical Center.
A Celebration of Life Service will be at 6:00PM Monday, November 1, 2021, at the Pineville Church, 8614 Pineville-Mathews Road, Charlotte NC 28226.
A native of Adna, Washington, Brent Alan was the son of the late Charles and Loraine Detering. He grew up on a dairy farm, where his love of animals and trees was allowed to flourish. He always wanted to explore the world and his adventurous spirit led him to become a logger in Alaska before attending university at Iowa Wesleyan. He continued his studies, earning a Masters at the University of Iowa and eventually a PhD at the University of Idaho. His love of exploration extended to everything in life and this drive led to a life-long career as a chemist with the Department of Energy. His research led to 16 patents and in his free time, he enjoyed camping, hiking, skiing and white water rafting with his family. He enjoyed travelling around the United States and abroad. He was a Christian and led community Bible studies for over 20 years.
Surviving are his wife, Carla Gibson-Detering: three daughters, Nichole Detering (Gaurav Mathur), Morgan Detering and Ariella Gibson; a son, Adam Gibson; two brothers, Richard Detering and Doug Detering (Linda); and two granddaughters, Maya Mathur and Pearl Mathur. He was proceeded in death by a sister-in-law, Linda Detering.
