Mr. Bruce C. Rosenberg, 41, of Stafford Park, passed away Monday, March 12, 2012 at his home. A native of New York, NY, Bruce grew up in Port Charlotte, Florida, and attended Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, where he was awarded a BS in Psychology in 1992. The son of Harry and Sharon Rosenberg, he is preceded in death by his beloved father. Surviving are his loving wife Julie Bohn Rosenberg; two daughters Ella and Lucy Rosenberg; mother Sharon Lee Rosenberg of Sarasota, FL; and sister Judy Quintero of Hinsdale, IL. Bruce was an amazing person. An unapologetic ‘science fiction geek' who loved his Dr. Who, Dungeons and Dragons and anime, he was also a self-taught gourmet who had always envisioned, one day, of opening his own restaurant. He loved his ‘girls' and he loved his friends. A resident of Stafford Park, he was a yearly and fierce competitor in the neighborhood Holiday decoration contest and was known for his elaborate and creative light displays that mixed both Christian and Jewish themes. Over the last year as Bruce battled a very aggressive form of Melanoma, a large on-line support group developed. The Pit Crew, a Facebook based private group comprised of a ‘rag tag crew' of college friends, work colleagues, complete strangers who became friends, baby wearers and other assorted unique characters, was formed shortly after his initial diagnosis in March of '11. This cyber support group, which had a membership that spanned the globe, provided much needed humor, love and emotional support. Flatulent unicorns armed with rainbows and bags of Skittles candies became a running gag/meme over the last eleven months, and for this, the Rosenberg's are eternally grateful. From the start, Bruce knew his chances of recovery were marginal. A stage four diagnosis of Metastatic Melanoma is a grim thing, and yet, his courage never wavered. He simply gave his cancer a name: Humperdink. Named after evil, yet simpering, Prince Humperdink from the film The Princess Bride, Humperdink, became the focus of the Pit Crew's ire. Through it all, Bruce faced every obstacle with grace, dignity and good humor, and always tried to find the good in every situation - whether it was having his lung removed via robot or having his head shaved. No matter how hard Bruce was hit, how sick he became, he still got up, dusted himself off and asked, "Is that all you got, Humperdink?" An educational fund will be set up for Lucy and Ella. In lieu of flowers, you may donate to their fund by mailing a check to P.O. Box 38101, Rock Hill, SC 29732 made out to either Ella or Lucy Rosenberg. A service to celebrate Bruce's life will be held Wednesday at 2:00pm in the Chapel of Bass-Cauthen Funeral Home with Pastor Steven Johnson and Rabbi Dr. Andrew Bernard officiating. Interment will follow the service at Forest Hills Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Bruce and Julie's home following the interment.
