Burt A. Thrift, 85 of Rock Hill passed away February 3 at home surrounded by family and friends. Burt was born on February 8, 1929 in Shelby, NC to the late Burt & Sally Thrift. He served in the US Army in the 82nd Airborne and was stationed in Ft. Campbell, KY. That is where he met his beautiful bride, Trucella whom he was married to for 62 years. Burt was a Shriner and member of the Masonic Lodge 111. He was retired from Hoechst Celeanse and was of the Baptist faith. Burt enjoyed fishing, hunting, and traveling but his first love was his family. He spent countless hours holding his grandbabies and each of them had a special place in his heart. Burt is survived by his wife and soulmate Trucella Thomas Thrift, three sons, Jack Thrift (Sheila) of York, Eddie Thrift (Sandy) and Richard Thrift of Rock Hill, his brother Ralph Thrift of York and sister Doris Garrick of York. Burt had 14 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Burt and Sally Thrift, his son David Thrift, his brothers Marion Thrift and Don Thrift, his sisters Agnes Robinson and Minnie Lou Ledbetter, and his granddaughter Sondra Thrift. The family would like to thank Sharon, Lynn, Jo, and the Agape Hospice staff for their love, support, and care for Burt and the family during the last few months. The family will receive friends from 11-12 noon on Friday February 6, 2014 at Lakewood Baptist Church. The funeral service will follow at 12 noon. Bass Cauthen Funeral Home is serving the family.
