Caroline “Butchie” Carter, 76 of Fort Mill, SC, formerly of Kernersville, NC, passed peacefully Saturday, April 22, 2023, at home surrounded by her loving sons and family. She was born May 1, 1946, in Winston Salem, NC to the late Clyde and Louise “Easie” Carter.
In addition to her beloved parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters- Sylvia “Cokey” Hayes and Sandra Louise Carter.
She was a devout Moravian and believed in Jesus with whom she now rests.
Caroline was a registered nurse by profession and took care of those around her. She had a love for gardening, scrapbooking, music, and most of all, spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was an avid Carolina Tarheel basketball fan and loved to watch the games on TV with her three sons. She would frequently say that “God’s favorite color was Carolina blue- that’s why he made the sky that color”. How fitting on the day she passed that the sky was the perfect shade of blue. You could almost hear her pointing that out and saying, “Go Heels!”.
She loved to laugh; her laughter was infectious. She was an awesome cheerleader for her grandkids- in sporting events and life. No matter the issue, she instilled positivity in every response.
Most important to her was her family. She will forever be remembered as a Mother, Grandma, Sister, Aunt, Cousin, and Friend.
She leaves a lasting legacy to be cherished. She is survived in death by her sons- Patrick McCrain and wife Cindy of Fort Mill, SC, Matt McCrain and wife Sharry of Charlotte, NC and Jason McCrain and wife Cassie of Charlotte, NC, and seven grandchildren- Shelby McCrain, Carter McCrain, Lily McCrain, Casey McCrain, Wesley Russell, TJ Russell, and Maddie McCrain. She had a host of precious nieces, nephews, extended family, and many lifelong friends.
A private Celebration of Life will be held by the family, who would like to extend their sincere appreciation to all the friends, family, nurses and staff for their unwavering compassion and supportive care. Your love and kindness will never be forgotten.
In the words of Caroline, “I love you to the moon and back.”
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her honor to a charitable organization of your choosing.
