ROCK HILL - Carolyn Jean Chitwood Thomas, 73, of Rock Hill, died Saturday, February 6, 2016, at her residence.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Tuesday, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Catawba Ward. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Monday at Whitesell Funeral Home.

Carolyn Jean Chitwood Thomas was born on October 18, 1942 to Glenn Parks and Susie Mae Elliott Chitwood. She has two brothers, George Parks Chitwood of Charlotte, NC and Glenn Larry Chitwood of Catawba, SC and a sister, the late Phyllis Ann Chitwood Edwards. Carolyn Jean grew up in Rock Hill, SC. On December 21, 1957, she married Emory Randolph Thomas of Rock Hill, SC.
Randolph and Jean were married for 49-½ years, as Randolph preceded her in death. They are the parents of five children, Timothy Randolph (Susan), Christopher Dwayne, William Byron (Sandy), Michael Steven (Kelly), and Rhonda Renee Thomas Canty (Huey).

As a young girl she loved to roller skate and go to the movies. Jean lived in Rock Hill until Randolph enlisted in the Army and they moved to El Paso, Texas. After being discharged, they moved back to Rock Hill and lived on Main Street until they built their home on Route 3. Jean is the grandmother to 14 grandchildren and 1 god-child, and 15 great-grandchildren. She truly enjoyed the visits of her grandchildren and would host games or Easter egg hunts so they could look for the treats and the golden egg.
Jean enjoyed reading, especially the scriptures. She also enjoyed writing, she even tried her hand at poetry. She always wanted to play the piano and enjoyed learning even late in life. She always excelled at learning and completed her High School diploma through York Technical.
