Celcei Neil Johnson was a summer child, born June 10, 1997, and carried that summer warmth
forward throughout her life.
She lost her life at work in an act of senseless and tragic gun violence on December 4, 2024. She was a much beloved first daughter, sister, granddaughter, niece, great-niece, cousin, and friend. Her circle of love and loved was large. She carried the legacy of her great grandfather, grandfather, and father through her middle name Neil.
Like her parents she attended Rock Hill schools and graduated a Rock Hill High Bearcat in the Class of 2015. She contributed to her school’s teams as an athletic trainer, and past teachers remember her presence fondly.
Like all of us post high school, Celcei walked a trail of maturation and discovery, trying to uncover herself and her purpose. She loved her whole family as a foundation, and her favorite employment was as a childcare worker. She loved the children and wished them to be in her future.
Celcei played cello and enjoyed music. She was skilled in a variety of crafts and art. She liked the serenity and the pace of the beach but also the excitement of New York City. She appreciated a good tattoo with a story to tell.
Celcei excelled in the kitchen, cooking and baking, and developed wide ranging skills and tastes that delighted all. It seemed she could have developed a career out of love and intuition with food. Her effort’s reward was in the enjoyment of others.
Celcei could light up a room with her exuberance and smile and possessed a warm personality.
Surely and sadly for all mourning, her life was all too fleeting.
She is survived by her loving parents Trey and Samara Johnson, sister Sidney Lowery (Matthew), grandparents Brenda Floyd (Rod Foley), Sonny Johnson (Charlotte), Jerry Williams (Grace), Shannon Williams, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and special cousins Ozzie and India Pullin.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Karson’s Kompassion Project in Celcei’s honor.
