Charles Nathan “Charlie” Blanton, aged 86, passed away on September 1, 2024, in Fort Mill, South Carolina. Born on March 28, 1938, in Gastonia, North Carolina, Charlie lived a life marked by dedication to his community, his country, and his faith.
Charlie graduated from Kings Mountain High and soon after joined the Air Force, where he served with distinction. His time in the military was followed by a successful career as a Charlotte police officer and later with AT&T, where he was respected by his colleagues for his professionalism and integrity.
A man of deep faith, Charlie was actively involved in his church community. He worshipped at Resurrection Church in Charlotte, NC and was previously a member of LampLight Church, also in Charlotte. His commitment to his faith was evident in his participation in church activities and community service.
Charlie was also an avid golfer, a hobby that he pursued with passion and joy. His love for the game often found him on the greens, enjoying the outdoors and the company of fellow golfers.
He was preceded in death by his parents Carl and Katherine Blanton, his brother Algae Blanton. Charlie’s legacy of warmth, generosity and kindness will also be remembered by all who knew him.
His surviving family include his precious wife of 61 years Martha Barnette Blanton: Children and grandchildren; Christina (George) Mackris, grands, Heather, Julia (Rich) Mackris ; Jerry and Jocelyn Blanton, grands, Elizabeth, Colleen, Jordan; Tracy (Jeff) Rehlander, grands Drs. Stephanie (Anthony) Kwon, Dr. Michael Pettus, Emily (Ross) Kalman; Bergen and (Kathy) Blanton, grands, Ryan Blanton, Whitney (Matt) Moore, Mandi (joseph) Muller, Ally (Brett) Fogle; Ginger Freeman, grands, Brodie Freeman, Sidney (Corley) Faulkenberry; Honorary daughter, Nancy Amburgey, grands, Sean (Jordan) Amburgey, Moises Diaz. Also 16 GREAT Grandchildren, all very special and dear.
A visitation and funeral service will be held Saturday, September 7th at Resurrection Church (Commonwealth Ave, Charlotte, NC). The visitation will start at 10 am with a service to follow at 11 am.
Palmetto Funeral Home of Fort Mill, SC is assisting the family with arrangements.
Charlies' life will be celebrated and remembered as one of Faith, Service, and Love.
