Charles George Konkus

Charles George Konkus, August 29, 1940 – December 15, 2020 peacefully entered eternity after an extended battle with Parkinson’s Disease. Charles, known as Chuck and Charlie to all that loved him was born August 29th, 1940 to Michael and Ruth Haines Konkus in Elmira, New York.  He was preceded in death by his parents.

Chuck is survived by his wife Janice Fullerton Konkus; his daughter Stephanie [Scott] Cost; granddaughter Madeline Cost; grandson Christopher Cost; daughter Meredith [Ernest] Salyer; stepson Ernest Salyer IV; daughter Marsha [Steven] DeVantier; granddaughter Emilie DeVantier; grandson Matthew DeVantier; granddaughter Annaliese DeVantier and granddaughter Leah DeVantier. His surviving siblings are Michael [Arlene] Konkus; Paul [Joyce] Konkus and Linda [Stanley] Burnham and numerous nieces and nephews.

Chuck grew up in Elmira, NY and graduated from Southside High School in 1959.  He enlisted in the Army in June of 1960 and served 3 years in the Army Corp of Engineers.  He transferred to the Army Reserves in 1963 where he was honorably discharged in 1966. Chuck received the Good Conduct Medal while serving the United States.  After the Army, he began his lifelong construction career in Elmira, NY where he retired from Elmira Structures, Inc. in 2009.  Many of his construction accomplishments can be seen around the Elmira, Horseheads and the Corning Area.

He and Janice Fullerton were married on April 9, 1966 in Elmira, NY.  They were married for over 54 years at the time of his death.  He was devoted to his “Jannie”, his girls and his grandchildren to whom he was known as Pops. He loved spending time with his grandkids riding trains, visiting construction sites to show them the big trucks or taking them out for an ice cream cone. His abundant love and knowledge of how to fix anything will be greatly missed.

Charles was a member of Lake Street Presbyterian Church in Elmira, NY. Once he and Janice moved to Fort Mill, SC in 2015 he joined Unity Presbyterian Church. In Elmira, Chuck was a member of Fur, Fin and Feather and the National Rifle Association.

A small service will be held at Unity Presbyterian Church in Fort Mill, on December 21st, 2020 at 2 PM.  It will be streamed at https://www.facebook.com/PalmettoFuneralGroup  for those unable to attend.
