Charles Wilson Sawyer, Sr., 87, of 1611 Constitution Blvd, passed away Sunday, December 27, 2009 at Harbor Chase. A native of Marlboro County, SC, Mr. Sawyer was born July 6, 1922 a son of the late Charles Wilson and Elizabeth Hood Sawyer. He was the founder of Sawyers Grocery and Produce, a WWII Army Veteran, member of The American Legion, The V.F.W. and charter member of Covenant Presbyterian Church where he was a former Deacon and Elder. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Lila Oates Sawyer. Surviving are his son Wilson Sawyer, Jr. and wife Sharon of Raleigh, NC; his daughter Betsy Chambers and husband John of N. Charleston, SC; two brothers Jimmy and Johnny Sawyer of Dillion, SC; three sisters Dot Townsend, Bea Hayes and Linda Monroe all of Dillion, SC; six grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. A service to celebrate the life of Mr. Sawyer will be held Tuesday at 2:00pm, December 29, 2009 at Covenant Presbyterian Church with Reverend Tom Sherer officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will be private at Laurelwood Cemetery.
