Clarence Odell Long

June 1, 1939 — October 10, 2012

Clarence Odell "Colonel" Long, 73, of 790 Will Jones Circle, passed away Wednesday, October 10, 2012 at his home. A native of Fort Mill, Mr. Long was born June 1, 1939 son of the late Fred E. and Ellie Kimbrell Long. He worked for Springs Industries for a number of years and retired from Blue Max Trucking in Charlotte. Mr. Long was a member of Roddey Baptist Church and was a U.S. Navy veteran. Mr. Long and his wife, Brenda were avid supporter of the Fort Mill High School band for many years. He was preceded in death by his brothers Ervin, Jesse and Bobby Long all of Fort Mill, Pete Long of York and William Long of Oakland, CA; sister Beulah Long Snipes of Rock Hill. Surviving are his wife of 52 years Brenda Weaver Long; sons Randy Long and his wife Patty of Norfolk, VA, Ronnie Long and his wife Susie of Lexington, SC;; grandsons Aaron Long, Justin Long and his wife Heather of San Diego,CA, Sebastian Long; granddaughter Lydia Lane and husband Paul of Hampton, VA, Quenae Long of Norfolk, VA; great grandsons Dominic Martin and Daniel Martin of Virginia Beach, VA; great granddaughter Braelyn Long of Fort Mill. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:00pm Saturday at Bass-Cauthen Funeral Home. A service to celebrate the life of Mr. Long will be held Sunday at 2:00pm at Roddey Baptist Church with Pastor Ronnie Helms officiating. Interment will follow at Unity Cemetery in Fort Mill with Military Honors by the U.S. Naval Reserves and the Fort Mill American Legion. Pallbearers will be his nephews Scott Sweat, Michal Ray, Jarrod Fulgram, Scott Long, Mike Long and Jerry Long. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Roddey Baptist Church Grounds Fund, PO Box 36, Catawba SC 29704.
