Clarence William Smith

September 11, 1930 — September 27, 2017

Clarence William Smith, Sr. , 87, of Rock Hill, passed away peacefully Wednesday, September 27, 2017 at White Oak Manor in York. He was born September 11, 1930 in High Point, NC, son of the late James Ellis and Pearl May Smith.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Elsie Sue Keller Smith.

Clarence proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps and was a faithful member of College Park Baptist Church. He taught Sunday School for 62 years. He retired in 1992 from his company Smith Distributing (Tom’s Snacks) and also worked for Pepsi-Cola 25 years. Clarence enjoyed time spent traveling and fishing. His greatest joy was his family and was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. He will be dearly missed.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his beloved wife of 21 years, Carolyn Mitchell Smith; sons, Bill Smith and wife, Shari of Charlotte, NC, Jim Smith and wife, Laura of Charlotte, NC, Bob Smith and wife, Nancy of Granite Falls, NC; daughter, Suzanne Smith of Salisbury, NC; step-sons, Sam Williams and wife, Cindy of Rock Hill and Kevin Williams and wife, Leigha of Greenville, SC; grandchildren, Ashley Speight and husband, Chris, Joshua Smith and wife, Emily, Matthew Smith, Daniel Smith, Brittany Smith, Hannah Welch and husband, Brandon, Madeline Smith, Heather Tench and husband, Craig, Patricia White and husband, Brian, Amanda Helton and husband, Robert, Brayden Williams and Chandler Williams; and great-grandchildren, William Speight, Ryder Helton and Finley Helton.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, September 30, 2017 at College Park Baptist Church with Pastor Mike Carter, Jr. and Pastor Jerry Broughton officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 10:00 AM until service time. Burial will follow at 1:00 PM at Sharon Memorial Park in Charlotte.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Clarence’s memory to College Park Baptist Church, 1168 Cherry Road, Rock Hill, SC 29732.
