EDGEMOOR - Claude Henly Pate, 91, of 4175 Edgeland Road, passed away Sunday, September 7, 2008, at Agape Rehab. A native of Dillon, S.C., he was born June 12, 1917, a son of the late Jeannette Pate, and was reared by his grandparents, the late Sam and Hattie Pate. Mr. Pate was retired from Manetta Mills and was a member of Lando Baptist Church all of his adult life, where he sang in the choir, taught Sunday School for 30 plus years, was a deacon, past treasurer and served on numerous committees at the church. He was a firefighter with Lando Volunteer Fire Department and a U.S. Army Air Corp veteran of WWII. Surviving are his wife, Effie Stroud Pate; two daughters, Clara Baker and husband, Gene, of Moore, S.C., and Cynthia Morgan and husband, Dennis, of Columbia; five grandchildren, Leslie Shelton, Jennifer Munn, Matt Baker, David and Richard Morgan; and six great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Bass-Cauthen Funeral Home in Rock Hill. A service to celebrate the life of Mr. Pate will be held 3 p.m. Tuesday, September 9, 2008, at Lando Baptist Church, with the Revs. Richard Harrison and Gene Baker officiating. Interment will follow in the Lando Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Lando Baptist Church, 3737 Lando Drive, Lando, SC 29724. Bass-Cauthen Funeral Home and Cremation Center is serving the family.
