Clayton Hugo Menéndez, 80, of Clover, SC, passed away on April 13, 2024 He took his last breaths surrounded by his family. Words can’t describe how much we will miss him. He was born on January 25, 1944, in Guayaquil, Ecuador and became a US Citizen on December 9, 1970. Clayton served in the Army from 1969 to 1991 and was a Gulf War Veteran.
He had a fulfilling career as a United States Postal Services Mail Carrier in Jersey City, NJ and a Coach Operator for Greyhound Inc, until he retired in 2007. In his free time, he enjoyed listening to live broadcasts from his hometown, listening to classic rock music, watching futbol, enjoying all his favorite meals, sharing stories of his past jobs and hobbies and expressing his love for outer space. In his earlier years he enjoyed going to the beach and bowling.
Clayton is survived by his beloved wife Mayra Menéndez, daughter Cynthia Marrero, son-in-law Steven Marrero, granddaughters Gianna Marrero and Eva Marrero, sister Cecilia Sánchez, sister Laura Menéndez, brothers Walter Menéndez and Wilson Menéndez.
He was preceded in death by his father Hugo Menéndez, mother Maria Barberan, sister Amalia Menéndez, and son Brian Menéndez.
A visitation and service will be held on Saturday, April 27, 2024, at Palmetto Funeral Home, 2049 Carolina Pl, Fort Mill, SC 29708. Visitation will begin at 1pm, with the service following at 2pm. Clayton will be laid to rest on May 1, 2024. The Private services will be held at Fort Jackson National Cemetery.
