Colleen Jean Mackay

Colleen Jean (Abbey) MacKay, 63, of Fort Mill SC, passed away on December 28, 2021 after a short battle with cancer. Colleen moved to Fort Mill in 1990 after spending her childhood and early adult life in upstate New York.

Colleen attended Cincinnatus Central School and received her GED. She worked many years for Rea Construction, as well as other companies in NY and SC. One of Colleen's true pastimes was being an active member of the Fort Mill Moose Lodge where she served as an officer for four years.

Colleen can best be described as a straight-talking, fun loving woman who never missed a chance to be with friends and family.  She loved her time on the back of a Harley, cheering on the Syracuse Orange and Carolina Panthers, and spending her weekends at the beach with her friends.

Colleen’s true love was her husband of 20 years, Richard MacKay who passed away in 2008.  She was also predeceased by her father, Wesley Abbey.  Colleen leaves behind her loving mother Miriam June Abbey of Cortland NY and her children Heather (Kerry) Simmons of Sherburne, NY and Joseph (Amanda) Simmons of Baldwinsville, NY.  Grandchildren Kolby Hahn, Hannah Simmons, Charger Simmons and Phoenix Simmons.  She also leaves behind two brothers Michael (Justine) Abbey and Brian (Lovina) Abbey  and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Her “Fort Mill Family” included several caring and loyal friends, most notably Tim and Sue Burns and Jamey and Terry Richardson.
