Daniel William Pitsos

May 11, 1944 — October 21, 2022

Tega Cay

PITSOS, Daniel Wiliam ‘Lt. Dan’ , 78 , of Tega Cay, SC , and formerly of Oakland County, MI, passed away October 21, 2022, after a valiant battle with cancer.

Dan was born May 11, 1944, in Detroit, MI, to parents Louis Pitsos and Rose Treewater (Triebwasser). His life of dedicated service began in grade school as he was chosen by teachers to be on the ‘School Safety Board’ , providing help to other students and staff members. He gave tours to new students, helped at the crosswalks, and ran errands for teachers.

After graduating from Lewis Cass Technical High School in 1962, Dan enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He loved his 4+ years as a ‘Twidget’ , serving as an Electrical Engineer on varying flights. His adventures in Christ Church, New Zealand and ‘Operation Deep Freeze’ at McMurdo Sound, Antarctica, have provided many stories to friends and family.

For over 45 years Dan served in many areas of Law Enforcement. From the Oakland County Sheriff Department to West Bloomfield (MI) Police Department (rising to Lieutenant in the Detective Bureau) to a return stint at the Oakland County Sheriff Department as a Warrants Officer and Bailiff in the court system, Dan was known as a loyal, dedicated officer to many in the multiple communities in which he proudly served.

After moving to Tega Cay with Debbie, his wife of nearly 34 years, Dan joined the parish of St. Philip Neri Catholic Church. He loved to continue serving and protecting as a Lieutenant of the parish ‘Safety Team.’

Dan was preceded in death by his daughter, Jodie Marie, his parents, Louis and Rose, and his sisters, Marilyn Tessier and Rita Okroy. He is survived by his wife, Debbie, his daughter, Jennifer Fairweather (John), his brother, Bob, his stepdaughter, Katie (Dan) Scallion, his stepson Joseph (Monique) Robbins, and grandchildren, Evelyn and Lily Scallion , and Colyn Robbins.

He was an uncle to many nieces and nephews, an ‘adopted dad’ to Aaron (Patti) Reed, a friend, a softball player, a poker buddy, a golf partner, and an energetic, wise-cracking employee of the Fort Mill YMCA. He will be greatly missed by many.

A Catholic Mass will be held at All Saints Catholic Church in Lake Wylie, SC, on Monday, November 14, 2022, at 11:00 am, with reception to follow immediately at the church. Internment following reception in the columbarium at Saint Philip Neri Catholic Church, Fort Mill, SC.
