Darleen Hallberg Horsley

Darleen "Sandy" Hallberg Horsley, age 83, passed away Saturday October 21, 2017 in the skilled nursing unit at Wellmore of Tega Cay.

Born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin the eldest daughter of the late Leigh Kenneth Hallberg and Lillian Cates Hallberg and married to the late Richard Raymond Horsley for 56 years. Sandy dedicated her life to her family and giving back to the community by volunteering with countless organizations including working at East Elementary School in Cherryville, NC. She lived in Cherryville for thirty years before moving to Fort Mill, SC to be closer to her grandchildren.

She is survived by her son Richard Leigh Horsley (Laurie) of Shelby, N.C.; daughter, Lori Jayne Horsley (Einar Westerlund) of New York City; sons, Kirk William Horsley (Elizabeth) of Fort Mill, SC and Blake Justin Horsley (Sheri) of Salida, CO; her sister Lindalee Macauley of Charlotte, NC, her brother, Leigh Hallberg (Ginny) of Fort Lauderdale, FL and her 10 grandchildren, Sophia, Reed, Forest Horsley, Lumi and Isabella Westerlund, Hannah, Hariette, Henry Horsley, Lillian and Kyle Horsley.

A Memorial service will be held Saturday October 28th at 3pm at the First United Methodist Church in Cherryville, NC. The family will receive friends following the service in the reception hall.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be sent to the Alzheimer's Association Western Carolina 4600 Park Road, Suite 250, Charlotte, NC 28209.
