David Arthur Brereton

David Arthur Brereton June 7, 1950 – April 22, 2025

David Arthur Brereton, a man of unwavering kindness, patience, and faith, passed away on April 22, 2025, at the age of 74. Born in Schenectady, New York, on June 7, 1950, David lived a life rich in love, dedication, and service.

David worked as an electrical engineer for IBM in San Jose, California, where his innovative spirit led to at least one patent. Beyond his professional achievements, he found joy and fulfillment in his passions, which included restoring classic cars, gardening, and spending time with his family.

David was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. As a young man, he served a full-time mission in the California Mission, Spanish-speaking. Later in life, he and his beloved wife, Valerie, served together in the Guatemala City Mission. David faithfully fulfilled many callings throughout his life, including serving as a temple ordinance worker.

Family was at the heart of David's life. He is survived by his loving wife, Valerie; his children: Laura, Linda (Spencer), Andrew, and Alan (Elizabeth); and his siblings: Bruce (Patsy), Carol, Steve (Caren), Donna (John), and Jane. He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Marian, as well as his sister Lynn and brother Jim.

David's love for learning and reading was matched only by his enthusiasm for ice cream, particularly fruit-flavored varieties. A cherished childhood memory was enjoying weekly gallons of ice cream alongside his siblings, a tradition that reflected the abundance of joy and love in his family.

David will be remembered as a man of quiet determination and immense kindness, whose faith guided him and whose love touched all who knew him. His memory will be a beacon of light and inspiration to those he leaves behind. A memorial service in honor of David's life will be held on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, located at 2710 Redbud Dr, Gastonia, NC, 28056.
