David Allen Kost, 62 years | Tuesday, August 19, 1952 ~ Monday, October 27, 2014 (Fort Mill, SC) A heart well loved, a life well lived and a family well blessed David Allen Kost, "Papou," went home to our Lord on Monday, October 27, 2014 surrounded by family in his Ft. Mill, South Carolina home at the age of 62. Born August 19, 1952 in Lansing, Michigan to Theodore J. & Betty Louise (Zillgitt) Kost, David left an indelible mark on his family, friends and community by being a generous and devoted friend who lived and loved with his whole heart. His unique passion for lively fun, great friends, "BIG" Fireworks, Coca Cola memorabilia and Disney made him an all-ages favorite. He was an artistic man with a talent for landscaping, woodworking and creating spectacular Greek cuisine. David was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved brothers Theodore Jr., Stanley William, Gary Dean and Steven Mark. Surviving in Fort Mill, South Carolina are his beloved wife of 41 years, Sheryl Ann (Foster) Kost; daughter, Shannon Marie (Scott) Shassberger; son, David Allen (Charlotte) Kost, II; grandchildren, Scott Justin Shassberger, Samantha Marie Shassberger and Sarah Elizabeth Shassberger, David Allen Kost, III and Clara Louise Kost. He is also survived in Michigan by his sister Kristina (Robert) Pritchard of Sumner; brothers, Michael (Joy) Kost of Lansing, Brian (Debi) Kost of Dewitt; sister-in-law, Lori (David) Sallek of Lansing; mother-in-law, Margaret (Alger) Foster of Lansing; brothers-in-law, Lee (Cindy) Foster of Mason, Andrew Foster of Lansing; 16 nieces & nephews, 29 great nieces & nephews, and many dear friends. David attended JW Sexton High School and Lansing Community College. He enlisted in 1970, proudly serving his country in The United States Marine Corps. His early endeavors included service at General Motors, Dana Corporation and as a Volunteer Fireman/EMT with the Delhi Township Fire Department. David retired in 2004 from the Ingham County Sheriff's Department after serving 22 years as a Deputy Sheriff where he was recognized as Police Officer of the Year in 1989 and received many Unit Citations throughout his career. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, Capitol City Lodge #141; Vietnam Veterans of America; Marine Corps League; The American Legion, Buck Reasoner Post 238. Please join the family to honor a man who will be greatly missed but always cherished. Although his smile is now for our memory, his spirit will continue to fill the rooms of our lives in a way that only he could. Memorial Service to be held in the Sanctuary of Philadelphia United Methodist Church (1691 Hwy. 160, Fort Mill, SC 29708) at 11:00 am Saturday, November 1st, 2014; luncheon to follow in the Fellowship Hall. Pastor Kevin Cooley of Philadelphia United Methodist Church will officiate, with remarks by Elder Toby Chrisley of Eternal Church. Military Honors will be presented by The United States Marine Corps and the American Legion of Rock Hill. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in the memory of David Allen Kost to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (Carolinas Chapter, 4600 Park Road, Suite 100, Charlotte NC 28209; www.cff.org) or Hospice & Palliative Care Foundation (P.O.
