Deloris "Del" Agatha (Flannery) Hayes

November 30, 1927 — October 16, 2020

Deloris (“Del”) Hayes, 92, of Fort Mill, formerly of Ocala, FL, peacefully went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday morning, October 16, 2020 at home.

Del was born on November 30, 1927 in Tyre, MI to the late Robert Patrick and Jane Olive Flannery. She was the youngest of five children.  Del graduated from nursing school in 1948 and worked as a Registered Nurse until she retired.  She met the love of her life, John (“Jack”) Hayes, in 1949, they married in 1950, and had seven children together.  Jack and Del were married for 59 years before Jack went home to the Lord in November 2009.

Jack and Del were members of St. Philip Neri Catholic Church where they served as  volunteers making meals for Pilgrims Inn and assisted with the Italian Festival.  At St. Philip Neri they met many wonderful people they became friends with.  Deloris was a member of the Pilgrim Virgin Rosary Group, as well as an auxiliary member of the Legion of Mary.  While living in Ocala, Florida, she and Jack were very involved with the local soup kitchen where the locals loved Del’s homemade soups.

Del was an excellent seamstress making a lot of her own clothes and that of her children.  She loved gardening, baking, crossword puzzles, and card games, and was also an avid reader.  She was known for her quick wit and sense of humor.  She loved to travel, she and Jack traveled via RV for a few years after retirement before buying a home in Florida.  They enjoyed great adventures to Montana, Alaska, Hawaii and Jerusalem.

Those left to cherish her memory include her sons William (Margaret) Hayes, Robert (Jackie) Hayes, and her daughters Patricia Hoffman, Laura Mendola, Mary Bosick, Beverly (Barry) Jackowski, and Carolyn (Adam) Miller. Also surviving are eleven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
