Derrick Mundy, 54, passed away on February 6, 2017 at his home in Rock Hill, South Carolina. His funeral service will be held Monday, February 13, 2017 at 11am at Bass-Cauthen Funeral Home. Viewing is scheduled for Sunday, February 12, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. Other services will be held at Batchlor Brothers Funeral Services, 7112 North Broad Street, Philadelphia, PA. Mr. Mundy was born on May 19, 1962 in Philadelphia, PA to Bernard and Dolores Mundy. He attended schools in Philadelphia and graduated early. He was working in his typical fashion at Florsheim Shoes and Hyatt Legal Services when he met his future wife. He married Denise Mundy on September 24, 1988 and relocated his family to York County, South Carolina. Together they raised three children and two grandchildren. He was very proud to be acknowledged as a dedicated husband and father and loved his family wholeheartedly. He often proclaimed that his family is his hobby. In his profession as a Respiratory-Care Practitioner at Piedmont Medical Center, Derrick provided care to his patients with love, compassion and with great skill and professionalism. To honor his "Spirit of Excellence" Piedmont Medical Center established the Derrick Mundy Award to be awarded to an employee that embodies Derrick's characteristic and work ethics while pursuing higher education in their medical profession. Derrick was a role model in every sense of the word. His family paid tribute to him stating, "Derrick was fun loving, a prankster and always wanted to see others smile. He was an inspiration to everyone he came in contact with. His life quote, "Do not pray for an easy life, pray for the strength to endure a difficult one." Bruce Lee. He was loved by so many people and will be truly missed. Derrick is survived by his wife, Denise Mundy and their children, Kerrie and husband Claude Porter, Brenton Eric Mundy, Janena Mundy as well as his grandchildren, William Alexander Mundy and Jada Nicole Mundy. He leaves behind his parents, Bernard and Dolores Mundy; his brother, Corey and wife, Charita Mundy; his niece Adreeonah Mundy; nephews, Sean Butler and Corey Mundy, Jr. and an abundance of family and friends.
